I thought that as soon as I will be leaving London yesterday, I will enjoy car-free cycle routes all the way to the English Channel, in Dover. What a mistake!
London was hectic, even though I managed to follow some bike messengers that made my riding in London more comfortable.
Never go on a long bicycle journey and rely on Google Maps only. You’ll end up on a motorway sooner or later. That’s what happened yesterday on my way from Dartford to Folkestone. Somehow I managed to get back on more cycle friendly routes, but not long after that some mechanical problems spoiled the sunny day.
Really, not much to tell about yesterday’s ‘ride’. I barely rode 45 kilometers (according to my Strava) as one of my brake cable broke. I had to take the train from Rochester all the way to Folkestone as I couldn’t fix my bicycle (all bicycle stores in Rochester were closed at 6 PM, of course). I was a bit dissapointed, I admit. Judge for yourselves my loggings on Strava…
Today I will pass the English Channel from Dover to Calais, in France. And then I will head to Brugge. Hope to be more lucky on the continent.
